SPORTS BIOMECHANICS

The Department of Sports Biomechanics at SAI Regional Centre, Trivandrum provides scientific support through the objective analysis of human movement in sport. The department applies bio-mechanical principles to understand how athletes generate force, execute techniques, and interact with their sporting environment.
Using advanced instrumentation and evidence-based methodologies, the department assists athletes and coaches in identifying performance determinants, optimizing movement efficiency, monitoring training adaptations, and reducing injury risk.
Sports Biomechanics & Performance Enhancement
Performance in sport is influenced not only by physical capacity but also by the quality and efficiency of movement.
Sports Biomechanics helps evaluate:
• Movement efficiency and coordination
• Force production characteristics
• Sprint and acceleration mechanics
• Jumping and landing strategies
• Neuromuscular function and muscle activation patterns
• Balance, stability, and postural control
• Technical execution of sport-specific skills
• Movement asymmetries and injury risk factors
The department works closely with coaches, physiologists, physiotherapists, strength and conditioning experts, and performance analysts to support the training, competition and rehab process.
